Journeyman for April

Journeyman: ..we will be going on a hike. Please bring hiking shoes and a notebook with you to class

REQUIRED:
Take your knowledge to understanding by:

Reading Genesis 2: 1-3 Look up any words you don’t know.Pick a word that you think is important to understanding God’s work and complete a word study on it.

Look for a current event that has to do with math or science

For this coming sabbath day observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. Prepare before hand to attend your meetings, to remember Christ, to have all in readiness to keep the day holy. Make a list of things you will do. After the sabbath compare the things you did do. How was your sabbath day observance. Did your feelings about the Sabbath change? Were your feelings towards the Lord different. Write down your thoughts in your journal. Come to class prepared to share in some way...visual, presentation, writing, words the things you learned.
 
Come to class prepared with a question regarding the sabbath day or Genesis 2:1-3

AND do one of the following:

Read The Chosen by Chaim Potok and give us a short oral book report during class.What was your favorite part?How did your understanding of Hebrew and Jewish culture increase by reading this book?Did you enjoy the book…why or why not?Share your favorite quotes from the book.

In some creative form record your thoughts, feelings and relationship with the Lord...this could be a poem, a musical composition, a journal entry, a visual representation, etc....we will not be near a computer, so if you want to do something on the computer please send the link to everyone to view prior to class.

Liken our study of Genesis to yourself. Share how you have/can come closer to the Lord through your scripture study.

Create a gratitude journal by writing, drawing, or taking pictures of the creations of God around you that you are grateful for.

Bring an object, picture, own creation, etc. that reminds you of God's love for you. Share with the class your object and why.

Research how different cultures...especially Jews... worship on the sabbath day.

Read from religious texts or talks how your religion encourages you to keep the sabbath day holy. Share with the class what you learn.

Do some additional research online or at the library into Chaim Potok's life. Share what you learn with us at class.

Read more about Boethius,Adelard of Bath, Gherard of Cremona,William of Ockham or Thomas Bradwardine online or from the library.  Write a short report, graphic summary or visual presentation about what you learn from your studies   
 
Create your own mathematical riddle for the group to figure out.  Please bring copies of your riddle for us to pass out to groups or individuals. 
 
Create your own standard of measurement.  Why do you think your system will work.  Where did we get our current measurement system from....feet, inches, miles, etc.  Where did the metric system come from?  Which is the best measuring system, in your opinion? 
 
Look up definitions for the following vocabulary words:   Measurement, Squaring, Standardization, Cartography, Perfect number, Number families, Involute,  exppnents, root, operations, order,  
 
Make a movie, play, skit, song, dance, artwork, etc.  from something you learned in the chapters in The Journey of Al & Gebra to the Land of Algebra .  See how creative you can be.  Make sure and use a math concept presented in chapter 6,7,8  or 11
 
Do some exercise!  Do two of the following: Swim a mile, Run a mile, Ride your bike a mile, Walk a mile, etc.   Record the number of steps, strokes, peddles, etc.  Comapre the two types of exercise.  Which mile used more bodily effort?
 
Read The Joy of Mathematics vignettes 5 13, 14, 20 or another one interesting to you and then teach a math moment to the class (please sign up)

Look for a current event that has to do with math or science
 
Pick an  body system (listed under memorization) and create a report on it.  Your report may be written, oral or digital.   What did you learn about the human body?  Please come prepared to share your report with us.
 
Come to class prepared with a question regarding the human body or Genesis 1: 26-31
 
AND do one of the following:  
 
Read Galen and the Gateway to Medicine by Bendick and give us a short oral book report during class.  What was your favorite part?  How did your understanding of medieval medicine by reading this book?  Did you enjoy the book…why or why not?  Share your favorite quotes from the book.
 
Draw, sketch, record in some art medium the body system you chose for your report.  What did you learn about the human body?
 
Bring a game or activity to help us memorize the parts of a system of the body (please sign up)
 
Do some additional research online or at the library into Galen's life.  Share what you learn with us at class.  Complete a character study on Galen.
 
For one whole day observe your body.  Take notes of which body systems you are using through out the day.  Make a chart or tally sheet of when you notice your different systems working...is your stomach growling from your digestive system?  do you feel pain from your nervous system?    are you using your muscular system too much? not enough? etc.   Write in your journal your observations through out the day.

March 27th. 6:00 pm.   We will be taking a CPR class at the hospital.  We will have a book discussion afterwards  and snacks.  You have until Thursday to complete your reading.  It is not a difficult book.  You should all come!  It is more fun with everyone there.  RSVP is required by Monday
