Inspirements for October 2012...Apprentice

1.  Read the Journey of Al & Gebra to the Land of Algebra chapter The Second Kingdom

3.  Read from the following links to learn more about Aryabhata I and Brahmagupta

4  (optional) Read The Joy of Mathematics vignettes pg 162, 226, and 190

5  Come to class prepared with a question of something you didn't understand or something you are curious about and want to ask others

6.  Reports to your parent or mentor about how you are doing on your math goals for this year.  Or you can leave a comment on this blog under the post entitled Math Goals

7.  Return your math curse worksheet or leave a comment on this blog under the post entitled Math Curse


and then do one or more of the following:

Read about Aryabhata I and Brahmagupta in Five Fingers to Infinity by Kokomoor and share with the class what you learned

Create a graphic summary of events or people that you learned about from your reading

Do some additional research and see what you can find out about Aryabhata I and Brahmagupta.  Share what you learn during class

Look up definitions of the following vocabulary words:  difference, direction, negative, place-holder, subraction, zero, equation, quantity.  Pick one word and do a word study on it.

Make a movie, play, skit, song, dance, artwork, etc similar to the story of adding alice in The Journey of Al & Gebra to the Land of Algebra.  See how creative you can be.  Make sure and include the math theory presented on page 17 entitled Adding Two Integers

Make your own cartoon explaining a math concept you have been learning about

Help teach a math moment to the class.
